Victoria Falls

One of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World, on the Zambezi River between Zimbabwe and Zambia. Viewable from both sides of the border, with white-water rafting and helicopter flights over the falls both popular add-ons.

Serengeti National Park

Tanzania's best-known reserve, famous for the Great Migration — over a million wildebeest and zebra moving across the plains each year in search of grazing. Best timed to the migration's position, which shifts through the seasons.

Maldives

A chain of coral atolls in the Indian Ocean, known for overwater villas and some of the clearest lagoon water anywhere. Most resorts occupy their own private island, reached by seaplane or speedboat from Malé.

Mauritius

An Indian Ocean island with calm, reef-protected lagoons, a strong Creole food culture, and a direct flight from Durban. A common choice for a beach holiday that still feels like a proper trip abroad.
