Built into the hull of the Phantom Ship at uShaka Marine World, The Cargo Hold is the closest Durban gets to eating underwater. One wall of the restaurant is the viewing glass of the aquarium's shark tank, so ragged-tooth sharks drift past somewhere between your starter and your main.

The kitchen leans, sensibly, into seafood — line fish, prawns and a KwaZulu-Natal take on grilled catch. Ask for a tank-side table when you book; there are only a handful and they go first.
